Saanich police say five more people have reported they've been scammed by a handyman who takes a deposit and then doesn't complete the work.
Police issued a public warning last week about the handyman, who has left jobs unfinished after taking payments between $100 and $1,000. Since then, five more people have come forward, police spokeswoman Sgt. Julie Fast said Tuesday.
The man posts his services, which include bathroom repairs, fence-building, painting and deck repair, on the online advertising site Craigslist. He signs a written contract with customers, Fast said, which makes his service look legitimate, but then doesn't start the work or abandons it halfway through. She said about 15 people from across the region have fallen victim to the ruse since last spring.
