VIRAGS meeting. The Victoria Rock and Alpine Society meets Tuesday at 7: 30 p.m. in Gordon Head United Church, 4201 Tyndall Ave. Renowned plantswoman Kristl Walek of Gardens North, Seeds for the World, will talk about her book on native plants of Eastern Canada. Walek left a law practice in 1992 to start Gardens North, now an international business with sales in more than 40 countries. There is no print catalogue, but the website (gardensnorth.com) is a treasure trove of rare and unusual plants. Orchid meeting. The Victoria Orchid Society meets Tuesday at 7: 30 p.m. in the Garth Homer Centre, 813 Darwin Ave. Rick Rancourt and Noreen Taylor will give a presentation on growing orchids indoors, on windowsills and under lights.
Rick began growing orchids in Thailand, and now has about 200 plants. Noreen has been growing orchids on windowsills with considerable success for many years. Visitors are welcome.
