Victoria Symphony music director Christian Kluxen has signed a contract extension with the organization that will take him through the symphony鈥檚 2022-2023 season.

Kluxen was born in Copenhagen and maintains residence in Denmark鈥檚 capital. He was hired by the Victoria Symphony at 34, in advance of the organization鈥檚 2017-18 season, to replace Tania Miller, who spent 14 years as the Victoria Symphony鈥檚 music director and conductor.

In 2018, Kluxen was named the chief conductor of the Arctic Philharmonic in Norway, following his three-year assistant conductorship at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He has collaborated with significant orchestras across Europe and North America during his career, including the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Kluxen鈥檚 extension was announced Monday night during a Victoria Symphony performance at the Royal Theatre, which opened the organization鈥檚 2019-2020 season. He will next lead the orchestra as conductor for a Nov. 10 performance of Sibelius Symphony No. 5 at the University of Victoria鈥檚 Farquhar Auditorium.
