The City of Victoria has awarded $216,000 in funding to seven not-for-profit arts and culture organizations as part of its Cultural Infrastructure Grant program.
The organizations received the funding to either improve or acquire cultural spaces.
The Other Guys Theatre Company Society received $100,000, which will go toward creating a new arts facility downtown. The Belfry Theatre Society and 91原创 Opera Victoria each received $25,000, which both companies will put towards purchasing specialized stage equipment. Blue Bridge Theatre Society received $11,842 for the same.
Intrepid Theatre Company Society ($24,000) and the Victoria Curling Club ($17,700) will both use their funds for physical upgrades, while the Victoria Conservatory of Music received $12,750 to conduct a site expansion study.
“The Cultural Infrastructure Grant program is vital to expanding and upgrading our much-loved arts and cultural spaces in Victoria,” said Mayor Marianne Alto. “This year’s funding will support the acquisition of a new cultural space in the downtown core, along with specialized audiovisual, lighting equipment and physical upgrades to provide new space for music and performing arts.”
In 2022, the arts and culture sector contributed $435.8 million to the local economy and employed 5,588 people in the region.
