Marijka Stanowych has been added to the faculty of the Victoria Academy of Ballet.
Stanowych comes to the school with extensive training from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, where she was a teacher for 22 years. She will teach all manner of students in Victoria, including ones in the professional training and post-secondary bridge programs.
A former dancer, Stanowych trained professionally in Ukraine and performed for 18 years with the Rusalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble in Winnipeg, later becoming its artistic director.
Victoria Academy of Ballet (formerly Island Dance Studio) was established in 1990 and offers specialized dance instruction for children ages three and up. According to is website, it is one of the only dance schools in the province to offer a full spectrum of progressive dance instruction.
