Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and 91Ô´´ Island took centre stage Tuesday in the live-action trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog, the first big-screen adaptation to star the beloved 1990s video game character.
The trailer opens with footage of a forested patch of road on Highway 19 near Bowser, which is made to look like the fictional town of Green Hills.
Carrey plays bad-guy Dr. Robotnik in the film, while James Marsden plays a San Francisco cop who discovers Sonic the Hedgehog and helps him save Earth.
Other areas of 91Ô´´ Island, including Ladysmith and Fanny Bay, are featured in the $90-million adaptation, which hits theatres in November. Sonic the Hedgehog was filmed in part on 91Ô´´ Island last year, with primary footage shot in New York and San Francisco.
Sonic the Hedgehog was expected to be one of the big titles on Paramount Pictures’ year-end schedule, but the trailer drew a very mixed reaction Tuesday, with some critics lampooning the CGI of the video game character.
