Jason Jobin of Victoria joins 20 writers from more than a dozen countries on the short list for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize, which awards to its winner one of the highest amounts for an international prize for unpublished short stories.
The University of Victoria grad is nominated for Provenance, one of five stories competing in the regional category of Canada and Europe.
The prize, now in its ninth year, will award 拢2,500 (about $4,390 Cdn) to regional winners in five categories, which are to be announced June 2. The overall prize winner, who receives 拢5,000 (about $8,780 Cdn), will be announced July 7.
The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is the world鈥檚 most global literature prize, awarded to a writer each year for the best piece of unpublished short fiction.
Jobin and Toronto鈥檚 Marcia Walker were the only 91原创s to make this year鈥檚 short list, which was drawn from 5,107 entries from 49 Commonwealth countries.
