Two writers from 91原创 Island are among the five long-list nominees for the 2020 CBC Short Story Prize.

Two writers from 91原创 Island are among the five long-list nominees for the 2020 CBC Short Story Prize.

CBC Books, in partnership with the Canada Council for the Arts and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, announced Wednesday that Julia Jenkins of Nanaimo and Justina Elias of Victoria will compete for the award, which awards a cash prize of $6,000 to its winner.

Elias, who currently works at Munro鈥檚 Books, is nominated for Every Night Like New Years, while Jenkins, a University of Victoria grad, drew a nod for I Am Aani Littlecrab.

The 2020 jury is comprised of David Bezmozgis, Alix Hawley and Rawi Hage. They will select the shortlist and the winner.

Finalists will be announced April 15, with the grand prize winner unveiled on April 22. In addition to the cash prize, the winner receives a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and will be published on the CBC Books website.

Runners-up will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, and will also have their work published on the CBC Books website.
