Please give to help literacy work

After 22 book drives, which resulted in more than $5 million distributed to school libraries and literacy work, this is a switch – our first bookless drive. No, we do not have books for you to buy.

After 22 book drives, which resulted in more than $5 million distributed to school libraries and literacy work, this is a switch – our first bookless drive.

No, we do not have books for you to buy. But we still need to raise money, so we have launched a special fundraising drive.

We know that many other organizations are looking for help this year. Thanks to COVID-19, it is a tough year all around.

That is why we are not asking for much. Small donations count, and if we get enough of them, we can make a huge difference to those who need help with their reading skills, or don’t have easy access to reading material.

The Times 91Ô´´ Literacy Society took in another $1,000 on Friday, mainly in $100 donations. If we can keep it up, we will have more than $20,000 from this drive by the end of September.

That money will be added to the money coming from Russell Books, which took all of the books collected in a drop-off day in August. Those books are still being counted and sorted.

As in past years, whatever we raise will be enhanced by additional funding from Decoda Literacy Solutions, which distributes money from the provincial government. The Decoda grant will be based on what we can raise in the community.

Please donate through timescolonist.com; you will see the link to the donation form on the upper right corner.

Thanks for your support.
