The 2021 CBC Nonfiction Prize has announced its longlist of nominees, which includes three authors from the 91Ô´´ Island area.
Books by Victoria writers Machenka Eriksen and Kirsten Dunbar, and Libby Gunn of Gabriola Island were selected from more than 2,000 English-language submissions. Gunn was feted for Whitefish, while Eriksen made the list for The Archaeologist’s Last Visit. Dunbar, who now lives in Creston, earned a nod for Ma.
The shortlist will be announced on Wednesday. The winner — who will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, have their work published on CBC Books and the opportunity to attend a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity — will be announced on Sept. 29.
