Nominees for the Victoria Book Prizes announced

Eight finalists for two Victoria Book Prizes have been announced, with nominees competing for individual prizes of $5,000 from the City of Victoria.

Eight finalists for two Victoria Book Prizes have been announced, with nominees competing for individual prizes of $5,000 from the City of Victoria.

Lorna Crozier (Through the Garden: A Love Story with Cats), Briony Penn with Cecil Paul (Following the Good River: The Life and Times of Wa鈥檟aid), Grant Buday (Orphans of Empire), Kyeren Regehr (Cult Life), and Madeline Sonik (Fontainebleau) were nominated for the City of Victoria Butler Book Prize, now in its 18th year. The prize is awarded to an author from Greater Victoria for the best fiction, non-fiction or poetry book.

Melanie Siebert (Heads Up: Changing Minds on Mental Health), Leanne Baugh (Wild Bird), and Leslie Gentile (Elvis, Me and the Lemonade Stand Summer) are contention for the City of Victoria Children鈥檚 Book Prize, which is awarded to a Greater Victoria author or illustrator for the best children鈥檚 book. The prize is now in its 14th year.

The winners will be announced Oct. 3 as part of the Victoria Festival of Authors. The free online event will be hosted by CBC鈥檚 Gregor Craigie. More information is available victoriabookprizes.ca.
