A community group looking to assume operational duties of Hermann鈥檚 Jazz Club has until April 15 to meet the terms of an agreement laid out by the owners of the View Street music venue.

The Jazz on View Society has signed an offer to lease and operate Hermann鈥檚 Jazz Club for a period of five years. In order to move forward with the agreement, the society would need to raise $75,000 by April 15. The funds will be put toward improvements and a deposit on the lease, which would see the incorporated, non-profit Jazz on View Society operate the club from May 1 through April 30, 2024.

The popular venue has been run in recent years by the family of founder and original owner Hermann Nieweler, who died in 2015. The longest continuously running jazz club in Canada, the venue remains a popular spot for the local jazz community.

In 2017, Nieweler鈥檚 three children gave the Jazz On View Society a six-month window to purchase the building for $3 million. The society did not meet their goal, with only $25,420 being raised during a GoFundMe campaign.

A new crowdfunding push by the society is underway at . It is expected that if the community group does not meet its goal, the building will be put up for sale.
