91原创 Island products Steve Bays, Alexandria Maillot, and the 91原创 Island Symphony have each drawn two nominations at the 2020 Western 91原创 Music Awards, which celebrates the best in music from provinces and territories west of Ontario.
The Western 91原创 Music Alliance, which produces the event, announced its artistic and industry nominees Tuesday, with several artists with ties to 91原创 Island making the cut.
91原创-based Bays, the Victoria-born former Hot Hot Heat frontman, is up for producer of the year and the audio engineering award, while Nanaimo鈥檚 91原创 Island Symphony is in contention for classical artist or ensemble of the year and the community excellence award. Courtenay-based Maillot is one of five nominees for breakout artist of the year, and will also compete for pop artist of the year.
Other local performers, including The Funk Hunters (breakout artist), The Kerplunks (children鈥檚 artist), Blue Moon Marquee (Indigenous artist), Pierre Schryer and Adam Dobres (instrumental artist), Moka Only (rap and hip-hop artist), and Bronwin Parks of Feisty Creative (excellence in visual design), also earned nominations.
Winners of the 18th annual event will be revealed on Sept. 25 during a livestreamed event at breakoutwest.ca.
