Organizers of the Victoria Fringe festival are streaming a smash hit from the 2019 festival for free this week to help fill the void left by the cancellation of the festival鈥檚 2020 edition, which was scheduled to begin Aug. 26.

A revamped version of Josephine, the 2019 Pick of the Fringe winner, will be available for streaming through Sunday on Intrepid Theatre鈥檚 website. The musical about the life of singer and civil rights activist Josephine Baker was the highlight of last year鈥檚 12-day Fringe, winning Overall Pick of the Fringe, Favourite Solo Show and Favourite Performer for the show鈥檚 star, Tymisha Harris. A newly-recorded 80-minute production by Florida鈥檚 Dynamite Lunchbox company was filmed with Harris backed by a live band, and is being offered by Intrepid Theatre with closed captioning if required.

To access the show, you鈥檒l need to register on Intrepid Theatre鈥檚 website. A donation link will be offered during the broadcast, with funds raised going to charities for people of colour. The Victoria Fringe was postponed in July until 2021, due to COVID-19. The alternative theatre festival posted some of the best audience totals in the 33-year history in 2019, with 20,000 patrons attending more than 250 performances.
