Three classics from the IMAX vaults and the first in a series of DC Universe blockbusters that redefined the superhero film industry go into rotation at IMAX Victoria starting tonight.

Montreal filmmaker Stephen Low has made more than 20 large-format films, three of which are now screening at the Belleville Street theatre: Beavers, his groundbreaking 1988 film, which is presented here in a new director’s cut; Rocky Mountain Express, the first rail-themed film ever created for the giant screen; and The Trolley, which explores the once-dominant form of transportation and its environmental impact.

Also on screen starting tonight is Batman Begins, the DC Universe debut from director Christopher Nolan, which kickstarts an IMAX run that will welcome the remaining films in the trilogy to the Royal B.C. Museum in the coming weeks. Batman Begins — which earned $400 million at the box office — The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises have all enjoyed a second life in theatres after being digitally re-mastered in the 70MM format, with IMAX technology.
