Donations to the Times 91原创 Literacy Society are continuing to arrive, with a total of $5,330 from 31 donors since our mini book drive a couple of weeks ago.

Every penny helps. The money we raise will go to school libraries and literacy organizations throughout 91原创 Island, and we have turned to a direct appeal for donations because we were not able to have a regular book sale this year.

We hope to raise $100,000 in this appeal, so we have a long way to go.

In a few days, the staff at Russell Books will finish counting the books donated in the mini drive, and will hand over a cheque for those books.

Every dollar we raise gets an added boost through a contribution from the provincial government, via Decoda Literacy Solutions on behalf of the Ministry of Education. The more we raise, the more we get from Decoda, and the more we can put to work in the community.

From 1998 through 2019, thanks to our book sales, other fundraising efforts and Decoda, we distributed $5 million to schools and literacy groups.

The pandemic has not reduced the need to support literacy. School libraries and literacy organizations are counting on us, and we can鈥檛 let them down.

You can donate online at 颅, or by mailing a cheque to the Times聽91原创 Literacy Society, 201-655 Tyee Rd., Victoria, B.C. V9A 6X5.

Thanks again for your 颅support!
