Why: Eight livestream performances of Urinetown by the students at the 91Ô´´ College of Performing Arts are included in this year-end showcase, which puts to bed another challenging year for the Oak Bay performing arts school. The Broadway favourite is the perfect way to kiss off the pandemic’s hold on in-person performances, as the celebrated musical/black comedy takes its share of shots at civil liberties, personal freedom and government malfeasance — or lackthereof. With direction by Naomi Costain, Michael Doherty and Caleb Marshall, the CCPA production (which comes with a content-advisory warning for mature content) will be spread over two weekends and features two separate 23-person casts, ingredients that should send many of these students off with a bang.

Tickets: $15 from

Why: Victoria native Leeroy Stagger moved home last year after 15 years in Lethbridge, and spent a chunk of time getting his young family accustomed to their new surroundings and his Rebeltone Sound Studio up and running before making live shows a priority. Stagger has been itching to get back on stage, and will do so (in a livestream capacity) with a performance from Courtenay’s Sid Williams Theatre on Saturday night. He will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Scott Smith for the 75-minute gig, which will feature a selection of his notable songs. Fans have also come to expect a few surprises from the country-folk performer in concert, which adds a layer of intrigue.
