Where: Royal Theatre
When: Saturday, Jan. 12, 8 p.m.
Tickets: $25-$45 from , by phone at 250-386-6121, or in person at the Royal McPherson box office
Why: A recurring cast of comics makes its annual winter stop in Victoria for the Snowed In Comedy Tour, a 65-city run that includes appearances in Courtenay (tonight) and Nanaimo (Friday). The cast of snowboarders, which includes veterans Dan Quinn, Paul Myrehaug and Pete Zedlacher, has a new member this year — Toronto comic Debra DiGiovanni, whose spirited takedowns of celebrities on Much Music’s Video On Trial series make her addition to the tour an encouraging one.

MUSIC

When: Saturday, Jan. 12, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: $25 at , by phone at 250-656-0275 or in person at the Mary Winspear Centre box office
Why: Valdy has hit a nice stride four decades into his award-winning career, with concerts that almost feel like family reunions. The Salt Spring Islander and folk favourite still has stories to tell and songs to sing, and his audience is more than happy to play serve- and-volley with the likable songwriter behind some fine 91Ô´´a offerings, including Play Me a Rock and Roll Song, Hometown Band and Yes I Can. Always recommended.

Where: Royal Theatre
When: Friday, Jan. 11, 8 p.m.
Tickets: $58-$68 from , by phone at 250-386-6121, or in person at the Royal McPherson box office
Why: Tony Kishman, a veteran of the Broadway musical Beatlemania, is at the helm of Live And Let Die, a multimedia tribute to the life and music of Paul McCartney. Kishman, who played bass with British rockers Wishbone Ash from 1994 until 1997, has starred in several Beatles-related productions. He created Live and Let Die a decade ago, and has joined with several veteran players — many with extensive Beatles-tribute experience — for this lavish touring production.
