Considering that Sloan is 27 years into their power pop career it wouldn't be unthinkable that knocking out another album could feel tiresome for the band. But guitarist Jay Ferguson says it's actually what keeps him on his toes. "I like adding to the war chest that is our body of work," the Halifax native said as Sloan readies their 12th album for release on Friday. THE CANADIAN PRESS/HO - Universal Music

What: Sloan
Where: Distrikt, 919 Douglas St.
When: Tuesday, Oct. 29, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: $27.50 from eventbrite.com, Lyle’s Place and the Strathcona Hotel

Why: There’s a celebratory flair to next week’s performance by Halifax rockers Sloan, who are paying tribute to one of their most popular albums with an anticipated album-in-full set at Distrikt nightclub. The show is in support of Navy Blues, which includes the band’s most well-known hit, Money City Maniacs, and other arena-ready anthems that were MuchMusic staples. The quartet (all original members, after nearly three decades together) is celebrating the anniversary with a special-edition box set containing three records and all sorts of fan-friendly ephemera, the icing on the anniversary-party cake.

MUSIC

What: Astrocolor
Where: Hermann’s Upstairs, 753 View St.
When: Thursday, Oct. 24, 9 p.m. (doors at 8)
Tickets: $15 from or at the Royal McPherson box office (250-386-6121); $18 at the door

Why: Local eclectic electro-rock collective Astrocolor has probably played every room in this city, so there’s a built-in appeal to the local band’s debut concert at Hermann’s Upstairs, the recently reopened venue above Hermann’s Jazz Club on View Street. That would be the end of the hype train, were this any other band. But Astrocolor is nothing if not experience party rockers, so expect to be impressed all over again, in what has been a fine room for dancing in the past.

What: Big Wreck with Texas King
Where: Distrikt, 919 Douglas St.
When: Saturday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m. (doors at 6)
Tickets: Sold out

Why: Toronto’s Big Wreck — one of the last remaining rock-radio holdovers from the 1990s — has always done well in Victoria, and the band’s concert Saturday in the Strathcona Hotel complex has the early warning signs of another buzzed-about performance in the making. Not only is the show already sold out, word has it the band’s tour dates thus far have been ear-melting showcases for the guitar work and Chris Cornell-like vocals of frontman and founder Ian Thornley. Bring earplugs.
