Why: Burlington, Newfoundland-born comedian Shaun Majumder is talking parenthood on his LOVE Tour, the emotional counterpoint to his Trump-inspired HATE Tour which stopped at the Mary Winspear Centre in 2019. On the run which brings him back to the Sidney theatre next week, the This Hour has 22 Minutes veteran will explore matters of the heart, including topics involving his two young children, Mattis and Eslyn, and wife of 11 years, actor Shelby Fenner. Fans will be in good hands, no matter where the Gemini Award-winner turns. Though he’s now based in Los Angeles, the actor-comedian is one of Canada’s greats.
ZAPPOSTROPHE’

When: Friday, Nov. 3, 9 p.m. (doors at 8); Saturday, Nov. 4, 7 p.m. (doors at 6)

Why: Frank Zappa’s deep fan base in Victoria is well-established. In 2008, when his son, Dweezil, brought a tribute honouring his late father to the McPherson Playhouse, diehards arrived dressed as Sheik Yerbouti. He’s a cult icon, no doubt, and tributes to the jazz-rock satirist are in constant employ. 91Ô´´-based octet Zappostrophe’ is one of the best in that arena, and is returning to Hermann’s Upstairs for two shows this week. The stage will be jam-packed, as will the setlist; the band (which features several University of Victoria grads) has put together material from a variety of Zappa projects, including The Mothers of Invention and Ruben and the Jets, further adding to the inspired lunacy.
CONNIE KALDOR
Where: St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 680 Courtney St.
When: Saturday, Nov. 4, 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6:45)
Tickets: $35 from ; $45 at the door
Why: Folk legend Connie Kaldor will visit Victoria on Saturday as part of the 91Ô´´ tour to support Keep Going, her 18th album and the latest entry in a catalogue that goes back more than 40 years. Kaldor, 70, is touring with her son, Montreal singer-violinist Aleksi Campagne, who is starting a career of his own. He’s under the tutelage of a storytelling master in Kaldor, who performs tonight at the Duncan Showroom. The three-time Juno Award winner can weave humorous, honest tales unlike few others in the country.
