Why: Joel Plaskett’s long-delayed Victoria concert to promote his 2020 album, 44 — comprised of four, 11-song records packaged together — is back on track following two years of interruptions. His tour got underway Wednesday in Campbell River and stops tonight at the Capital Ballroom with opening act Mo Kenney along for the ride. The Halifax-based Plaskett never disappoints no matter what lineup he brings to Victoria, having played here on his own as a solo act, with his backing band, The Emergency, and with his previous band, Thrush Hermit, over the course of nearly 30 years. Don’t miss him — he’s one of Canada’s best lyricists and performers.

Why: Edmonton’s Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company brings this special presentation to the Royal Theatre stage on Saturday for what should be a spirited, emotional performance. Founded in 1969, and named after the Cheremosh River that separates the regions of Bukovyna and Halychyna, the company merges traditional folk music and customs with ballet performed by up to 50 dancers. The company has resumed its 50th anniversary celebration with a new touring program of greatest hits, culled from its vast repertoire, and will be collecting donations at the performance to benefit the Canada Ukraine Foundation.

Why: Everything from aerial artists to music an storytelling is on tap at Colwood’s In Sight festival this weekend, which takes place over two days at the family-friendly Fort Rodd Hill. Adding to the natural beauty of the waterfront site — anchored, of course, by the picturesque Fisgard Lighthouse — is a full slate of events, some of which are presented free of charge. Aerial artists Island Circus Space are the headliners Saturday, while Sunday features the Esquimalt and Lekwungen Dancers, indoor and outdoor art activities, and music by the The Band of the 5th (B.C.)
