JAWS: THE IMAX EXPERIENCE

Why: IMAX Victoria will bring one of the most enduring summer blockbusters to the big screen — the largest one in the province, to be exact — when Jaws opens at the Royal B.C. Museum theatre this week. There’s no better venue in which to see the ravenous great white shark (known off-screen as Bruce) rampage through Martha’s Vineyard, which should make the scant seven screenings of the Steven Spielberg classic in extremely high demand. The original has been re-released twice before, in 1976 and 1979, but Jaws is just now receiving the IMAX treatment. Don’t miss it.
THE LONELY

Why: Don’t expect to see a dry eye in the house when The Lonely takes the stage tonight for its first show without lead singer Mike Demers, who died suddenly last year. The band, with new singer Danielle Lebeau Petersen joining Gord Light on lead vocals, returns to the stage with a newly expanded set of songs, including rock ‘n’ roll and country hits from Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline, the Everly Brothers, and others. The band also performs Friday at the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay.
FERRON
Where: St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 680 Courtney St.
When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6:45)

Why: The artist born Deborah Foisy is among the most acclaimed in 91原创 folk, with a résumé of recordings consistent in their forthright, down-to-earth delivery. A singer-songwriter’s singer-songwriter, Ferron has been on the road for more than 50 years, with nary a drop in quality. She drew raves for her performance this summer at Courtenay’s 91原创 Island Music Festival, and will play the city once again Friday at The Old Church Theatre. Tickets for that Courtenay show and her Victoria return the following night, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, are expected to be gone by showtime — if not already.
