Victoria's Astrocolor plays the Capital Ballroom on Saturday. ANGEL RODRIGUEZ

ASTROCOLOR

Where: Capital Ballroom, 858 Yates St.

When: Saturday, Oct. 29, 8 p.m.

Tickets: $40 from

Why: Astrocolor has the uncanny ability to morph its music to fit any room and occasion, which bodes well for its upcoming Halloween performance. Though the band’s most recent recording, Paradise, is full of summertime vibes, the band (with DJ support from opening acts Bendy and Sport Mode) will have their costume game on, no doubt.

Victoria’s 12-legged groove machine was recently named instrumental artist of the year by the Western 91原创 Music Awards, so expect nothing less than expert musicianship, good time grooves, and the potential for things to go madly off in all directions at any moment.

MUSIC THAT GOES BUMP IN THE NIGHT

Where: Royal Theatre, 805 Broughton St.

When: Saturday, Oct. 29 (7:30 p.m.), and Sunday, Oct. 30 (2:30 p.m.)

Tickets: $29-$98 from the Royal McPherson box office at 250-386-6121 or

Why: The latest offering from the Victoria Symphony is geared toward the spooky season, with a program that includes music designed to give audience members chills.

Pops conductor Sean O’Loughlin is perfectly suited to such a program: Music That Goes Bump in the Night features portions of the hall-of-fame score to Jaws — creepy as creepy gets — by noted film composer John Williams, whose work O’Loughlin has conducted on several occasions.

The pair of performances this weekend will also showcase Camille Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, a tone poem for orchestra written in 1874 by the French composer and used often in all manner of media. Centred around a legend, in which death appears at midnight every year on Halloween, it will anchor the Victoria Symphony event with atmospheric aplomb.

LANGFORD FALL FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL

Where: Langford Station, 720 Station Ave.

When: Saturday, Oct. 29 (2 p.m.-8 p.m.), and Sunday, Oct. 30 (11 a.m.-3 p.m.)

Admission: Free

Why: Festival season still has some legs, as evidenced by the Langford Fall Food Truck Festival. The cultural district in downtown Langford is purpose-built for events such as this, which makes for an appealing Saturday evening/Sunday afternoon of music, food, and Halloween-themed activities.

With a food lineup that ranges from Bird and Basket (rice bowls and wraps) and L’Authentique (poutine and burgers) to Candy Time Victoria (carnival confectionery) and Hazel’s Ice Cream, there’s no shortage of options. And with a tent-covered site, attendees will be able to enjoy music by The Bankes Brothers, Noah and the Flood, and others with a dry dancefloor.

Non-perishable donations are also being accepted on behalf of the Goldstream Food Bank.
