Speaking of fuel efficiency, Volkswagen showed its bound-for-production, third-generation Golf Blue-Motion concept at the Paris Auto Show, claiming its combined 3.2 L/100 km - a whopping 15 per cent improvement over the previous model - will make it the most fuel-efficient Golf ever, powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine driving the front wheels.
Given its 50-litre fuel tank, the Golf BlueMotion, due in showrooms next summer, will have a theoretical range of 1,550 kilometres between fill-ups.
Volkswagen calculates that most owners will only have to refuel their Golf BlueMotion less than once a month. Light weight and smooth aerodynamics also contribute to its incredible economy of operation.
