Victoria International Airport has relaxed its mask requirements over the area of the terminal where it has jurisdiction, but masks must be worn where federal rules apply.

Masks are not required inside the building prior to reaching security, said Rod Hunchak, director of business development and community relations.

But because federal regulations governing airports still stand, people must wear masks when they go through security, in the departure lounges and while on board an aircraft.

Proof of vaccination rules, also set by the federal government, are still in place.

Individual tenants in the terminal building, on the pre-security side, can decide if they will require employees to wear masks, Hunchak said.

Any workers in the post-security area must wear masks.

“For the time being, we are leaving up the plexiglass barriers at ticket and service counters as well as in queue areas and will determine for how long these will remain in place,” Hunchak said.

As for the future, measures will be adjusted as restrictions are relaxed and the airport will respond to guidance from the various agencies with jurisdiction, he said.
