Nissan recalls JX35 over gas gauges

Nissan is recalling about 7,800 Infiniti SUVs built this year because the fuel gauges can show gasoline in the tank when there isn't any. The recall includes 1,116 of the sport utility vehicles sold in Canada.

Nissan is recalling about 7,800 Infiniti SUVs built this year because the fuel gauges can show gasoline in the tank when there isn't any.

The recall includes 1,116 of the sport utility vehicles sold in Canada. Nissan's voluntary recall affects the JX35 SUV from the 2013 model year, built from Feb. 15 through June 22.

The company says tubing inside the gas tank could be in the wrong place, which could prevent a float from dropping as fuel is used and cause an inaccurate reading on the dashboard fuel gauge. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that as a result, the SUVs could run out of gas unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash. Nissan will fix the problem for free. Owners will be notified by mail, and repairs are expected to start Sept. 4.
