The new Beachhouse Restaurant in Cordova Bay, formerly McMorran's, is staging its first fundraising event on Aug. 12 to benefit the Victoria Conservatory of Music. The landmark restaurant, which underwent a massive makeover during the past year and re-opened in June, will stage an afternoon of food, music and beachside activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with proceeds going to the conservatory, which serves more than 1,800 music students in the region. Beachhouse owner Kate Phoenix called the conservatory "a treasure for Victoria, and a vital part of the education and cultural fabric of the community." The Beachhouse is at 5109 Cordova Bay Rd.
