Betsi Boeno听will be entertaining you with her special presentation about the Jews' History in Turkey.听 More than five centuries ago, The Jews who emigrated from Spain to Turkish territories brought along their religious and social traditions as well as their culinary. These traditions have passed on to generation after generation and have become a very special and unique heritage. You will hear about Turkish Jews' lifestyles, traditions while learning about this magnificent country's brief history as well.听
You will also have the chance to taste some very popular Sephardic recipes during intermission by Rosalind Majorki & Yaaqov Ittah, Betsi Boeno, Amber Woods, Ruth Schereier, Dahlia Beck and Frances Aknai.听
You will then be joining听Kouskous听to learn about the history and influences that combined to create the rich musical tradition of the Sephardi Jews.听 Experience the rhythms and musical flavors that make Sephardi music both exotic and soulful.听听 Let the music of the Sephardi take you from a synagogue in Marrakesh to Istanbul and places in between. 听World Folk Music duo听Kouskous听features Mediterranean inspired vocal inflections and guitar stylings combined with spicy and exotic Middle-Eastern Rhythms. Gary Cohen fronts听Kouskous听and provides vocals, guitar and lead percussion while Amber Woods adds back-up percussion on a variety of instruments and occasionally sings.
