This eye-opening stage play tells the chronological history of the Holocaust through the personal prism of experience. SURVIVORS explores hatred, the capacity to survive and thrive, and serves as a call to consciousness for our challenging present. Combining history with life lessons, the audience is guided through a time when hatred was normalized. The audience is both uplifted by the survivors' triumphs and inspired to take action against present and future racism.
The play interweaves the true stories of ten Holocaust survivors, four of whom were still alive when the play premiered in New York in 2018. Survivors covers the rise of Hitler through life after the war, and includes true stories - a teen who watched her boyfriend being taken away to a concentration camp, a girl who was separated from her parents and relocated to England through the Kindertransport, and a boy whose family struggled to escape to China. Though each has a unique story, all the survivors “went through this horror and came through the other side to build meaningful, contributing, beautiful lives,” says playwright Wendy Kout.
