Officials are supplying sandbags to West Kelowna residents amid a high-stream-flow advisory from the B.C. River Forecast Centre on Sunday and a special warning from Environment Canada of heavy rain.

The advisory covers small and medium sized watersheds in the Okanagan and Shuswap, where the Salmon River and Mission Creek are running at high volume, according to the provincial advisory.

鈥淗eavy snow melt has occurred through the region over the past [three to four] days in response to high temperatures,鈥 read the advisory.

Those temperatures are forecast to continue into the week, and heavy rainfall predicted overnight Sunday and into Monday could cause water levels to rise even higher.

As much as 25 mm could fall overnight, according to Environment Canada.

Staff at the District of West Kelowna are providing sand and sandbags for property owners at Casa Loma Beach, Pebble Beach Park, and Falcon Park, according to Central Okanagan Emergency Operations.
