TERRACE — A weekend double shooting that resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man was drug-related, say RCMP.

The victims were known to the shooter, and "all individuals involved are known to police," said RCMP Const. Lesley Smith in a news release.

Killed was Eric Maurice Cardinal, 27.

A woman was also injured in the shooting in Thornhill, an unincorporated community adjacent to Terrace in northwestern B.C.

When the police were called out to the shooting about 1 p.m. on Saturday, they were told a suspect had drove off in a pickup truck.

The RCMP found the truck on an abandoned logging road, and with the help of a police dog, found the suspect hiding down an embankment.

Travis Leslie Stephens, 29, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

Stephens is in police custody and is set to appear on Wednesday in B.C. Supreme Court in Prince George.

The North District Major Crime Unit and the Terrace RCMP are continuing their investigation.

They are asking anyone with information of the incident to contact the Terrace RCMP at 250-638-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
