Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a deadly crash on Highway 16 east of Fraser Lake on Friday night.

At approximately 8:25 p.m. a eastbound Ford pickup truck lost control and crossed into the path of a westbound Hyundai SUV near 100 Forest Service Road, according to a statement released on behalf of Vanderhoof RCMP.

The head-on collision killed the male driver — the only occupant — of the SUV. A passenger in the pickup truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. John Hospital in Vanderhoof.

The male driver of the pickup truck was uninjured, but showed signs of alcohol impairment, according to police.

Police are withholding the names of all involved, pending notification of next of kin.
