Premier Christy Clark says she will be at Global BC on May 6 for a town hall style debate with NDP leader Adrian Dix. "I hope I'm not the only one (to show up,)" she told Liberal candidates Tuesday morning. Premier Christy Clark has accepted a challenge from a news outlet to debate NDP leader Adrian Dix in a televised debate on May 6.

On Tuesday morning, Clark told the Liberal candidate caucus that she has accepted a letter from Global BC to be part of a one-on-one leadership debate with Dix.

鈥淲e are doing it without conditions,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 will be at Global studios ... I hope I鈥檓 not the only one.鈥

But Dix has reportedly turned down Clark鈥檚 challenge for the debate, saying excluding other parties is disrespectful.

The 90-minute town hall meeting would be separate from the traditional all candidates debate, she said.

Clark dismissed suggestions that it would be unfair to the other candidates, saying that realistically the race for premier comes down to only two candidates.

鈥淚n the consortium debate and the radio debate all four leaders will be there, I understand, but you know, the thing is, there are only two of us that are in position to become premier.鈥

With only five weeks to go until the election, and the party struggling in the polls behind the NDP, Clark said she thinks a debate could help voters understand where the party stands.

鈥淣o one really sees my opponent, no one really knows what he stands for, I feeling like I鈥檓 running against perfection. When we get in the debate I鈥檒l be running against another candidate and that candidate will be Adrian Dix and so I like my odds better running against Adrian Dix than perfection.鈥

At the Liberal meeting, held at the Plaza Hotel in 91原创, Clark spoke of a 鈥渞enewed鈥 Liberal party, noting that there are more women running for the party than ever before. She told candidates that it was important to get out and share with constituents the Liberals plans to create a debt-free B.C.

Clark was addressing the BC Liberal candidates at 9:30 a.m., while NDP leader Adrian Dix made an announcement about the province鈥檚 ailing film industry 鈥 also at 9:30 a.m.

The provincial election is set for May 14.
