VANCOUVER — A search by friends and family for 20-year-old Kevin Fry, who had been missing since New Year’s Day, ended in sorrow on Saturday when his body was discovered in a wooded area close to his Guildford home.
Cpl. Bert Paquet with the Surrey RCMP said foul play is not suspected. “From what was observed at the scene, it appeared the remains had been there for several days or more.”
Fry was reported missing by a family member and was last seen at his home in the Guildford area of Surrey in the early morning hours of Jan. 1.
Friends say Fry left the house on New Year’s Day pick up his paycheque from his boss because he had no money. He had been working as a landscaper.
Fry’s father, Glenn Fry, went missing in Delta on Feb. 15, 2000. His disappearance remains unsolved. “No connection has been made at this point with the disappearance of his father,” said Paquet.
Elain Brooks, a close family friend who started a Facebook page called Let’s Bring Kevin Fry Home, said nearly 100 people showed up for the search on Saturday.
Brooks, whose daughter is friend of Kevin Fry’s twin sister, Jessica, said it was out of character for him to leave without contacting his sister.
“Their dad left when they were [young], and he made a pact with Jessica that they would never stay out of touch. He had no reason to run away. It boggles the mind.”
