HALFMOON BAY — The floatplane lost a propeller in mid-flight, chopping into both pontoons, but RCMP say the pilot still managed to make a safe but powerless landing.
Police say the incident happened Monday afternoon shortly after the plane left Powell River.
The Seair Beaver float plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Halfmoon Bay on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast when the plane’s propeller came off.
And while both pontoons were damaged after being struck by the propeller, the plane managed to stay afloat because there are several sealed compartments in each pontoon.
The pilot and three passengers weren’t hurt.
The plane was safety towed to shore by a Royal 91Ô´´ Marine Search and Rescue vessel and two other civilian-operated vessels that were nearby.
