28.1 C a record in Victoria as warm temperatures seen throughout B.C.

Warm temperatures shattered records for May 5 across 91原创 Island and Metro 91原创 on Sunday. Victoria topped 28.1 Celsius, up three degrees from the previous record of 25C set in 1953, while Tofino had high of 24.

Warm temperatures shattered records for May 5 across 91原创 Island and Metro 91原创 on Sunday.

Victoria topped 28.1 Celsius, up three degrees from the previous record of 25C set in 1953, while Tofino had high of 24.9, breaking the previous record of 21.1 set in 1994.

Nanaimo, Powell River and Port Alberni also saw record-breaking temperatures. As of 7 p.m. at the Nanaimo airport, it was still 27.

In the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford nudged past its old benchmark, hitting 30.1 C.

Lillooet, where the mercury climbed to 32.8 C, was B.C.鈥檚 hot spot, breaking its old record of 31.1 set in 1925.

Environment Canada forecaster Greg Pearce said temperatures Monday will be similarly warm.

In Victoria, a high of 23 is forecast for Monday, with sunny skies through at least next Saturday.

The rest of the week will be dry and generally sunny, with temperatures in the low 20s in 91原创 near the water and high 20s inland and in the Fraser Valley.
