BOBSLEIGH
Women’s two-seater — Kaillie Humphries, Calgary, and Phylicia George, Markham, Ont., sit fifth after two runs (1:41.60); Alysia Rissling, Edmonton, and Heather Moyse, Summerside, P.E.I., are seventh after two runs (1:41.76); Christine de Bruin, Stony Plain, Alta., and Melissa Lotholz, Barrhead, Alta., are eighth after two runs (1:41.85). All three teams compete for a medal on Feb. 21.
CURLING
Women — Rachel Homan, Ottawa, lost 7-5 to China in draw 10, dropping to seventh place at 3-4.
Men — Kevin Koe, Edmonton, defeated Japan 8-4 in draw 10 to improve to 5-3 and is tied with Great Britain for second place.
FIGURE SKATING
Ice dancing — Tessa Virtue, London Ont., and Scott Moir, Ilderton, Ont., won the gold medal after finishing second in the free skate (122.40). Their overall score was 206.07. Kaitlyn Weaver, Toronto, and Andrew Poje, Waterloo, Ont., finished seventh in the free skate (107.65) and seventh overall (181.98). Piper Gilles, Toronto, and Paul Poirier, Unionville, Ont., finished eighth in the free skate (107.31) and eighth overall (176.91).
FREESTYLE SKIING
Women’s halfpipe final — Cassie Sharpe, Comox, B.C., won the gold medal with a top run of 95.8 points; Rosalind Groenewoud, Calgary, finished 10th with 70.6.
Men’s halfpipe — Mike Riddle, Sherwood Park, Alta., finished seventh with a top run of 82.2 points; Noah Bowman, Calgary was ninth (77.2). Both qualified for the final. Simon d’Artois, Whistler, B.C., finished 13th (66.6) and did not qualify.
SPEED SKATING
Short Track
Men’s 500 — Samuel Girard, Ferland-et-Boilleau, Que., won the second heat (40.493) and advanced to the quarter-finals; Charles Hamelin, Sainte-Julie, Que., was penalized in his heat and did not advance.
Women’s 1,000 — Kim Boutin, Sherbrooke, Que., won her heat (1:32.420) and advanced to the quarter-finals; Marianne St-Gelais, Saint-Felicien, Que., finished second in her heat (1:30.512) and advanced to the quarter-finals; Valerie Maltais, Saguenay, Que., finished second in her heat (1:30.773) and advanced to the quarter-finals. All three compete on Feb. 22.
Women’s 3,000 Relay — Canada (Boutin, St-Gelais, Maltais, Kasandra Bradette, Saint-Felicien, Que.) was penalized in the A final and was ranked eighth.
