Wellington Secondary School jazz groups returned home from Ottawa with four gold medals after MusicFest.
Twenty students, under the direction of Carmella Luvisotto and Steve Jones travelled to the national music festival, which attracted 9,000 students.
The Wellington Secondary Senior Jazz band, Groovin High Combo, Forward Motion Combo and the Dew Drop Combo all brought home for the school.
Individual winners include Grade 12 guitarists Cameron Gerrick, winning the Steve's Music Outstanding Guitarist Award, the top award for a high school guitar player in Canada. He received a $500 cash scholarship. Gerrick, along with Grade 12 tenor saxophonist, Marty Hilchey and Grade 12 drummer Adam Cormier were also awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Humber College in Toronto. Four students were also awarded national honours awards, Cormier, Gerrick, Hilchey and Sarah Parenteau.
