Swollen Members bring energy to Queen's

Hip hop act touring to support new album

Swollen Members are on the brink of world domination and they're doing it one fan at a time.

"We are having an amazingly exciting week, can't wait to announce all the exciting things," their long time manger Jay Clark says.

The band is bringing their show to the Queen's on Monday. One of Canada's favorite indie hip hop outfits, 91原创's Swollen Members are on tour gearing up for the summer release of their latest album Black Magic. Known for fierce, high-energy performances, MCs Mad Child and Prevail deliver intelligent passion over hammering beats.

After releasing singles on Mad's label Battle Axe Records in the '90s, their full length debut Balance hit the streets on the edge of the millennium and forged Swollen Members' place in the forefront of Canada's independent hip hop scene.

Follow up Bad Dreams broke into the mainstream with support from radio and video, reaching platinum sales and a picking up a Juno award. The Swollen momentum continued with Rob The Viking and Moka Only on board for Monsters In The Closet and Heavy. In the making for over two years, Black Magic marks the group's return to a darker-edged sound.

Collaborators include Ghostface Killah, Everlast, Dilated Peoples, and Mix Master Mike.

Embracing the Internet to build a buzz in the underground, the band believes that a taste of Black Magic from the free downloads on www.swollenmembers.com will get you hooked and wanting more when the album drops this August.

Now, fresh from three months in the U.S. with Ghostface Killah and GZA (Wu-Tang Clan), the band is out in Western Canada and California.

"The guys are doing some small intimate shows with their fans, playing some new material before they finish their brand new album," Clark says.

Look for a special screening of Skateboard Party before each show (Skateboard Party is a collection of footage from the Red Dragons skate tour.)

Tickets are available in advance at Lucid, MusicMaxx & The Queen's.
