What if enclosures of cute rabbits are included in your strata? A local rabbit rescue is hoping to address Richmond's perpetual rabbit conundrum with an innovative solution.
Rabbitats is asking for community feedback on potentially providing secure outdoor enclosures of sterilized rabbits in collaboration with stratas, institutions, community groups, farms, businesses and private citizens.
"The rabbits are an attraction, and they have proven to be therapeutic pets, reducing stress and providing hours of enjoyment," explained Sorelle Saidman, founder of Rabbitats.
"Rabbitats would like to explore harnessing their popularity and therapeutic value, while mitigating the environmental issues loose domestic rabbits can cause, by connecting them with community groups, stratas and others who can benefit from their presence."
She added shelters and rescues are already at "maximum capacity," and more destinations are needed for unwanted rabbits.
As part of its research, Rabbitats will be setting up an information booth at its "Meet N' Treat" event at Bosley's Ironwood on Saturday, June 29, where community members can learn more about the idea.
