Metro 91原创 Transit Police say they found a cache of weapons and over $36,000 of cash in the possession of a man and a woman from Surrey who were suspected of trafficking drugs along the SkyTrain corridor.
In a statement Tuesday, Transit Police spokesperson Amanda Steed said they became aware of the alleged dealers in spring 2024.
Following an investigation, transit police and Surrey RCMP arrested the suspects and seized, among other things, fentanyl that was disguised to look like dog treats.
Also seized from the two suspects were: 3.4 kilograms of fentanyl; 28.7 grams of cocaine; five firearms, including a Polymer80 9MM caliber semiautomatic “ghost” handgun; body armour; a diamond necklace and diamond ring; and a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.
“The volume of fentanyl seized equalled nearly 2 million lethal doses, which is alarming, given that we are in the midst of an opioid crisis in B.C. To have it be processed using moulds designed for dog treats meant that this potentially deadly substance was disguised to make it appear benign to anyone who came across it,” said Steed.
The BC Prosecution Office has approved charges of: 10 counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of trafficking a firearm and four counts of possession of a firearm without a licence.
Steed told Glacier Media the age and names of both individuals cannot be disclosed at the moment due to a publication ban on bail proceedings.
Steed said one suspect has been released with strict conditions, including 24-hour house arrest, while the other remains in custody pending their next court appearance.
