Grizzly bear confirmed in Lang Creek area of qathet region

RARE SIGHTING: BC Conservation Officer Service is warning people to stay away from the salmon hatchery at Lang Creek because a grizzly bear has been spotted in the area. Residents are warned to stay away from where the bear is roaming because human interaction is not desirable.

A grizzly bear has been confirmed in the Lang Creek area of the qathet region.

According to a release from the BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS), conservation officers are in the area advising residents to be vigilant with attractants, fruit, livestock and pets.

Coastal grizzly bears typically do not inhabit the residential side of the Sunshine Coast, the release stated.

BCCOS will continue to provide information to the public to increase public and wildlife safety, according to the release.

The public is encouraged to report all sightings and conflicts to the report all poachers and polluters (RAPP) line, as the information can assist the BCCOS in managing this bear. The RAPP line is 1.877.952.7277. Reports can also be made online at .
