Nancy Borden - North Saanich mayor candidate 2022

Nancy Borden

Are you associated with or running as part of a slate? If so, which one?

No

Do you live in the municipality where you are running, and if so, for how long? If not, what is your connection to that community?

Yes, 25 years

What is your occupation, and for how long?

Business Owner (Family businesses)

Tell us about your previous elected and/or community experience.

I have sat on every PAC for every year of my children’s schooling usually as PAC President. I was a School Trustee in 2014 for the District of Central Saanich (as my children were attending Stelly’s). I am currently Chair of the Board of the 91原创 Propane Association. My husband was a North Saanich Volunteer Firefighter for 20 years (now a lifetime member) and I volunteered whenever spouses were allowed to join in and still do. I’ve also volunteered for every sporting association or community group my children have partaken in (there were lots!)

Why are you running? What’s your motivation?

I want to lead the District of North Saanich’s successful candidates to be a strong, cohesive group who bring their collective experience to the table, listen to the constituents of the district, reason issues out respectfully, stick by their fiduciary duty to each other when a decision has been agreed upon.

What are your top three issues?

• Binding together the district as a whole, we’ve been divisive for far too long.

• OCP. Deal with whatever the current council leaves us to deal with. The new council may have its hands tied on how we can act, so what we can do remains to be known.

• Advocacy for the District. The Mayor AND council need to be engaging our neighbouring districts (CS, Sidney, SD63) the CRD, provincial and federal partners to make sure if we want to stay rural (with controlled commerce), we find ways to do that. Finding funding to support farming and protect our coastline/parks or reducing budgets by sharing costs

What’s your vision for your community in 25 years?

I want our community to be a welcoming, peaceful and safe environment. I want North Saanich be a place that folks can afford to live, from cradle to grave.

What’s one “big idea” you have for your community?

Creating more places and opportunities for us all to get together to enjoy this place we call home. Build on opportunities like the North Saanich Farmer’s Market for example.
