Are you associated with or running as part of a slate? If so, which one?
Independent
Do you live in the municipality where you are running, and if so, for how long? If not, what is your connection to that community?
I’ve lived in Nanaimo for 17 years and owned our home for 33 years (had to wait until our business sold)
What is your occupation, and for how long?
I’ve been a Business Administrator for 15 years in Nanaimo and a Business Owner for 25 years in McBride, BC
Tell us about your previous elected and/or community experience.
I have been a Councillor for the Village of McBride (BC) and a Director on the Fraser-Fort George Regional District. I have also been deeply involved with the McBride and District Chamber of Commerce for over 10 years in revitalizing our downtown and increasing our tourism profile.
Why are you running? What’s your motivation?
I believe we’ve run into some polarization in Council that has led to questionable decisions on civic projects as well as the Official Community Plan. Just imagine, it’s over 600 pages! I want to bring my Leadership, Commitment, and Business and Common Sense to Council analysis and decision making. I am determined to bring our community’s voice into Council.
What are your top three issues?
1. The Safety of Our Community through Crime Reduction and Enhanced Protection
2. Reassess our Official Community Plan and understanding why we need to conform to World Economic Forum Guidelines
3. Investigate and Work on our Budget to STOP our Rising Taxation and Questionable Spending on Civic Projects
What’s your vision for your community in 25 years?
I’d best like to start with the first 5 years - that would be to create a Vibrant Downtown Core, fill with thriving businesses and a growing and active population. This will require the implementation of security and enforcement measures to assure the safety of all who live and visit there. At the same time, collaborate with provincial and federal governments to find solutions for our homeless population by realizing there are several streams that feed into it.
In 25 years, much is possible ~ my vision is to be the most attractive and vibrant community on the West Coast
What’s one “big idea” you have for your community?
To Create a Community that we are ALL proud of and the Shining example of what is possible.
By nurturing ideas, dreams and creativity in our youth and draw from the wisdom of our elders.
By letting Common Sense prevail in decision making and conservative spending in our budgets.
