Riding description

NDP MLA Doug Routley is seeking a third term in office in this diverse and interesting riding.

He’s facing Green candidate Mayo McDonough, a former executive director of the Greater Victoria Better Business Bureau. John Sherry, an executive with a concrete-products manufacturer, is representing the B.C. Conservatives.

The riding runs from south Nanaimo to the Duncan border and encapsulates two regional districts, five populated electoral areas, five First Nations, and the islands of Kuper, Thetis, Gabriola and Valdes.

The future of B.C. Ferries service to small communities remains a concern for local residents, as does forestry issues, the future of Catalyst’s Crofton paper mill, raw log exports, and available beds for seniors care.
