Re: “Victoria council mulls mid-block crosswalk on Blanshard,” Feb. 28.
So, the city is looking at potentially putting a crosswalk on Victoria’s major commuter road. Is it April Fool’s Day already?
There is so much wrong with this that it borders on lunacy. With pedestrian crosswalks already on Bay Street and on Hillside Avenue, it seems rather ridiculous to put a crossing a mere 60 metres away from both.
Perhaps this can be solved by putting up barriers to stop people from jaywalking across six lanes of traffic at Kings Road, and educate them about the merits of getting a little exercise.
If this crazy idea goes from thought to reality, it will be yet another roadblock for people wanting to travel downtown, or leaving the city, for that matter.
