It is lamentable to follow the many restrictions on small recreational businesses working our coastlines. I refer specifically for the moment to whale watching operations. This industry is an key job generator in Greater Victoria both directly and indirectly.
It is important that tourists coming to our beautiful city have enough interesting opportunities to make their trip worthwhile.
Whale watching is an important component of this. Therefore, where does the draconian 400-metre set back from southern resident killers whales come from? It will effectively kill this industry over time. Customers will slowly disappear. I would like to see the powers that be take a more reasonable approach to regulations, such that all concerned can coexist more peacefully.
