After we get over the concept of anything really being 鈥渇ree,鈥� there is the realization of just how ill-conceived the idea is as a measure to get people out of their cars and take transit.
With a monthly transit pass costing $85, it is a no-brainer to look at it as the cost of a tank of gas, and a great deal if a bus can take you where you need to go.
Making the ride free will not get drivers out of their vehicles if the route, frequency and length of travel make it inconvenient.
