Re: “Horse carriage firms threaten to sue,” May 22.
Victoria city council must not stop the horse-drawn carriages or they will get sued. It is the charm of Victoria. These draft horses will be sold for meat when they have no more use. There is no happy ending for them or 70 people employed by the two companies.
The accident with a bus hitting the carriage is rare, and maybe carriages could be rerouted through Beacon Hill Park and not on the main roads.
Most people just want to enjoy the carriage rides, as I did in New York, through Central Park; it was wonderful, romantic and fun. These horses surely don’t like the heavy traffic, which has adverse health effects on passengers and staff.
These folks need their jobs, and the horses need the company to look after them so they have a reasonable life. I am an animal lover and think it is the right decision to continue the carriage rides.
