Re: “Thetis housing an opportunity,” comment, May 19.
I am a View Royal resident who believes the use of my taxes for affordable housing in my town is a priority. I also sometimes use public transport. Often, the people I see on the buses are seniors, sometimes using canes, or parents with strollers and/or toddlers.
Anyone might appreciate living near Thetis Lake, if they have a car. A bus needs to be close and frequent enough for daily living — work, grocery shopping and medical appointments. B.C. Transit says it might increase service.
Can you imagine that happening for only 32 units?
I ask anyone voting on this project to use the buses for everything for two weeks (no cheating because you can’t get to a meeting on time). Then decide what priority frequent, close transit has to a site for public housing. Mayor David Screech makes a valid point that the price for a less-accessible site is cheaper, but at what cost to the proposed residents?
